Southern Liver Health Study

Have you ever wondered what environmental toxins you are exposed to on a daily basis, and how it might affect your health? The STRIVE study is looking for volunteers who would like to provide blood, urine, and/or saliva, as well as home samples such as soil, dust, and/or water. In this study, we want to learn more about the environmental factors that contribute to advanced liver disease and liver cancer. We are looking for healthy volunteers and people with liver cirrhosis who live in either North Carolina or Georgia to take part.

Alcohol Blood Sample Study

Are you a non-smoker and a light or heavy social drinker between the ages of 21-35? If so, you may be eligible to participate in a study examining the role of alcohol consumption in immune responses. One visit to UNC is required (2-3 hours). Compensation is provided.

Type 2 Diabetes Blood Sugar Control and Weight Loss Study

Is your diabetes not well controlled on your current medication(s)? Has your doctor been discussing adding additional medication to help reduce your HbA1c? If you have type 2 diabetes with elevated blood sugars and have excess body weight, you may be able to participate in a research study to find out if an investigational medication can help improve your diabetes and help you lose weight.

Study for patients who are overweight or obese with heart disease or chronic kidney disease

Are you overweight or obese? If you also have heart disease or kidney disease with at least two risk factors for carviovascular disease, you might be eligible to take part in a research study that may help you reach up to 19% weight loss. In this study, we want to learn if a drug that is being tested is effective in reducing heart disease risks and will help you reach a healthier weight and active lifestyle.

Diabetes Control in Dialysis-Dependent Kidney Failure

Do you have type 2 diabetes? Do you have kidney failure and require hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis? You may be able to take part in a research study to find out if using an approved medication (semaglutide) improves blood sugar control. Study medication and diabetes management provided. Participants will be compensated for their time.

Mycobacterium Avium Complex (MAC) Lung Disease Treatment Study

Have you been recently diagnosed with Mycobacterium Avium Complex (MAC) lung disease and are looking into options for treatment? You may be able to take part in a trial of a new, oral medication called SPR720. We are doing this study to learn more about both the safety of the medication and how well it works to combat MAC lung disease. Study of Oral Epetraborole for the Treatment of M. Avium Complex (MAC) Disease

Are you currently diagnosed with an M. Avium Complex (MAC) infection of your lungs? Have the treatments you received not improved your condition? If so, you may be eligible for a research study to learn if a new medication (Epetraborole) is safe and effective in treating this disease. A Study of Atrasentan in IgA Nephropathy (ASSIST)

Atrasentan is an investigational drug. That means it has not yet been approved by the FDA as a medicine. Researchers want to find out if taking atrasentan along with a drug called an SGLT2 inhibitor is safe and helps people with IgA nephropathy.

A study to test BI 764198 in people with a type of kidney disease called focal segmental glomerulosclerosis

This study is being done to see if the study drug, called BI 764198, may help people with a type of kidney disease called focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (abbreviated FSGS). Researchers are trying to figure out if the study drug can reduce the amount of protein in your urine, also known as "proteinuria".
